Love is in the Air! And my husband is out of town!
Wait, that didn't sound right!!
Well, with Valentine's Day coming up and my husband out of town, it was perfect timing to move a small table into the living area and create a beautiful, romantic table for two in front of the fireplace.
The reason why I said it was good timing with my husband gone - was because I set up most of this on Super Bowl Sunday - in the room where he would be watching the big game - not the usual game time activity!

While it is romantic by the fire, its also difficult to photograph!
So most of the photos here are during the day in the sunlight.
I loved the way these strings of hearts casted heart shaped shadows against the fireplace from the very bright snowy daylight streaming through the patio doors.
This table topper has been in my closet for a number of years. I bought it and a spool of ribbon that matched it in an after Christmas sale one year for a steal.
I made the napkin ring bows from the ribbon, used Dollar Tree votive holders and scattered some hearts I cut out of some sparkly paper to add some romantic touches to the table.
Embroidery hoops painted gold and embellished with some tiny roses and greenery make for an inexpensive way to decorate above the mantel. Simple candle sticks and a sign that says "I Still Fall for You Every Day" that I borrowed from our bedroom sit on the mantel.
Those strings of hearts turned out to be much more of a challenge than I thought they would be. I hung them from fishing line - but they kept twisting and turning. So I ended up cutting some narrow strips of acetate and ran those down the back. Luckily you don't really notice the acetate and it doesn't show at all in the photos.

So pretty, the plaid is a nice change from the usual, and the gold accents really add an elegant touch.
ReplyDeleteHi Ann! I very much enjoyed your tablescape. A slightly masculine twist to any feminine display always catches my eye, and your plaid in a rustic, fireplace setting does that for me. Love how that ribbon matches the tablecloth so perfectly! The heart strings casting a shadow is very cool, and those hoops above the fireplace - great thrifted project. Very nice tablescape, one of my favorites!

Your mantel is soooo pretty too, and that little falling for you sign is just perfect! I hope your husband will be back to enjoy it! I busted out laughing at the first line! I was taking pictures of mine early on during the Super Bowl- but didn't have to worry about hubby since he's not a football fan. I especially love the table topper print- what great colors and I like how you used the matching ribbon to tie the napkins- what a great look! Love how you did the mantel with the golden hoops with red flowers, the candles and the heart strings! Very creative and romantic!

ReplyDeleteAnn, I did the same thing last year ~ moving the table in front of the fireplace; I promise it was really romantic, but hot! I love your plaid tablecloth and the red flowers as a centerpiece. The plaid ribbon and napkin is the show stopper.

Love the first lines of your post almost as much as the tablescape! Hope your hubby does get to enjoy what you were up to during the Super Bowl. :) That plaid tablecloth is so striking and really makes a dramatic statement - just lovely! I really like the colour combination of your dish stack which ties in perfectly. Great fireplace decor - I know fishing line does tend to make lighter things twist and ALWAYS the wrong way! You've come up with a great alternative. The pretty hoops above your mantel with the candles look wonderful. So enjoyed my visit here!

It is difficult to avoid all the pink and frill, but you managed to create a romantic look that could also appeal to a masculine sensibility with the color scheme, and great tablecloth with coordinating bow napkin rings. ReplyDeleteMaureen, I'm sorry, I don't know the flatware pattern. I purchased it about 18 or 19 years ago when there used to be Value City stores, they have since closed their variety stores and only have the furniture stores now.
